Build Your Career in Residential Construction
We're always interested in hearing from good people, qualified carpenters looking for their next site, and anyone serious about starting an apprenticeship and learning the craft properly.
Qualified Tradesmen.
We take on qualified carpenters who care about their finish and want to work on jobs they can be proud of, Queenslander renovations, custom new builds, and architectural homes across Brisbane. You'll be working alongside the owner, not handed off to a junior site supervisor.
We pay above industry standards for skill and experience, place a strong emphasis on good culture and keep the team small enough that the work stays interesting. If you've got a ticket, your own basic tools, and take pride in getting it right the first time, we'd like to hear from you.
- Cert III in Carpentry (or equivalent) and current White Card.
- Experience on residential renovations, extensions or new builds.
- Reliable, tidy on site, and good with clients and other trades.
- Own transport and basic hand tools.
Apprenticeships.
A job AI can't take.
Queensland is in the middle of an extreme shortage of qualified builders and tradespeople. Demand for housing, renovations and skilled hands on site keeps climbing, and there simply aren't enough licensed people to meet it. For anyone willing to put in the years, this means steady work and real earning power for decades to come, gaining a skill that's transferable anywhere in the world.
It's also one of the few careers AI and automation can't replace. Framing a wall, hanging a door straight in a 100-year-old Queenslander, that's human work, done on your feet, with your hands. Learn it properly and the skill stays with you for life.
Being an apprentice in QLD.
Being an apprentice in Queensland is not for everyone. The heat is real, the mornings are early, and the labour is hard on the body. But unlike when we worked our way up, apprentices today are paid pretty well. It's a genuine head start into a career that pays for the rest of your life, without the burden of a HECS debt.
Respect, reward, and the long road.
At Topbuild, we will treat you with respect and reward hard work. But like the trades before us, there are parts of the job that aren't fun. You'll spend hours learning to measure and cut, it takes time to perfect that skill, it seems small but material cost is a huge part of the business, a wrong cut is money down the drain.
Cleaning is part of the role. If we're alone on site, we clean up at the end of the day. It's part of the job, and it always will be. Starting out is hard. Summer can be brutal but it's worth it for the trade you gain.
That said, at Topbuild we try to enjoy our work, have a laugh on site, and we offer annual performance bonuses for the team members who show up, put in the effort and keep getting better.
Halfway through? We'll take you on.
If you're partway through your apprenticeship and looking to transfer, yes, we do take these on. Having worked under some difficult bosses during my own apprenticeship, we understand how much the right environment matters. A poor fit shouldn't cost you the trade.
Get in touch with where you're up to, the experience you've gained on site, and what you're hoping to learn next. We'll have an honest conversation about whether Topbuild is the right fit to finish out your time.
Looking for a career change?
There's never been a better time to join the construction industry. With Queensland's growing demand for skilled trades leading into the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, employers are being encouraged to take on mature age apprentices (21+ years) through government incentive programs.
At Topbuild Group, we value the experience, reliability and strong work ethic that mature age apprentices bring. If you're ready to learn a trade, earn while you learn and build a rewarding career, we'd love to hear from you.
